Foundations Class

1.  Get to know the pastor and others in the church. 1 Thessalonians 5:12 “And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you.”

2.  Insure that you have a solid foundation in the faith. 2 Corinthians 13:5 “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith.  Test yourselves.”

3.  Build unity by giving us all a common starting point. 1 Corinthians 1:10 “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you …”

4.  Learn what New Life Fellowship is about, what we teach, and what we value. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 “ … as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.”

5.  Understand what the people you lead to the Lord and bring to New Life Fellowship are going to be taught. Acts 17:11 “ …they received the word with all readiness and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”

6.  Demonstrate a cooperative attitude essential to any future ministry in New Life fellowship. Ephesians 4:11,12 “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for equipping of the saints for the work of ministry …”

7.  Avoid drifting. Hebrews 2:1 “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.”

8.  It is safe to review. Philippians 3:1 “For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.”  1 Peter 1:12 “I will not be negligent to remind you always of those things, though you know and are established in the present truth.”

9.  Learn how to teach. Hebrews 5:12 “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God.”

10. It is proper order. Hebrews 13:17 “Obey those who rule over you and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account.  Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”

11. You might learn something new.  Acts 18:24-26 “Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born in Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in Spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord … when Aquila and Pricilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.”
